Ross sighed happily as he wiped the sweat off his brow and admired his work. He had spent ages finding a plot, and gathering the materials necessary for the meticulous process. He had obtained seeds and a watering can, and had readied the soil with his bare paws for the small sprouts of life. He had nurtured the earth, the soil, the flowers, everything. He had made the garden from the ground up with only his paws and his bare will power. The usually shy Raichu had kept it all a secret, and a well-kept one at that. Even his trainer had no idea this garden existed. It was all for good reason too.

He had started the project with the love of his life in mind, the lovely Leafeon Saria. Well, it was more of a major crush, but that crush has been going on inside of him for so long it has become a normal feeling for him, and yet it never gets old. It makes him feel warm and light, turning his yellow cheeks red as a tomato even at the thought of her. What a beautiful plant, her perfect leaves, plush fur, bright and shiny eyes-

Ross shook his head and covered his bright red face with his dirty paws. He needed to stop doing that to himself. He peeked from behind his fingers to inspect the flowers and take his mind off of her, or at least try. He had arranged the flowers so that they grew in a large circle with soft grass just in the middle of the meadow he sat in. The flower bed had a small break where one could walk to the middle of the circle without crushing any flowers, and the trimmed grass was lined with soft moss to make it as comfortable as a pillow. Perfect for resting and enjoying the scenery. It was a simple gift, but he hoped she would like it.

Ross smiled dreamily as he imagined how happy she would be. It would be perfect, at least he hoped it would be. He walked around the bed for one last bug check. When everything seemed clear, he walked through the break in the bed to the circle to sit down and ponder how he would ask her to come sit here with him so he could show her what he has done. If he tried to ask her, he knew he would just stumble into shy stutters and mouth murmurs embarrassingly so much so that he wouldn't be able to recover.

Ross then brightened up as a solution dug its way through his mind and he thought up exactly how he would get the plan into action. He got up and ran off to gather what he would need to put this new step of his plan into action. As he ran for his owner's house, he passed Vincent and Veruka. Ross glanced at them through his peripherals, but saw Vincent attempting to woo her with some orange roses as he wore a black bowtie. Where had he gotten that anyway? Oh well. Ross then bumped into something.

"Watch where you're going-!" Ross shook his head as he landed on his rump and looked up at who was yelling at him. Of course it was Napoleon. "Oh...it's just you Ross. Go back to doing whatever you were doing, I am busy." Ross gazed at what he had in his hands, and low and behold: it was flowers. Ross nodded to the larger male and got back up to continue running to Jenna's house. He turned his head back for a spell in time to see Napoleon strut towards Cotton with the bouquet of pink carnations. Even the dominant water type had a heart only for his own. Ross smiled at the thought and kept towards his goal.

Saria yawned and stretched out her paws. She had been sunning herself on a rock to rejuvenate her leaves, as being a grass type you needed not much more than some sunlight to feel so much better. She hopped daintily off the rock and strolled over to a small Wild Flabebe nearby, saying hello and chatting happily with it. Suddenly the Flabebe pointed to something on the ground a ways away from them, and Saria bid the flower goodbye to check it out. Once she padded over to it, she noticed it was a Sweetheart! The brown chocolate treat was sweet tasting and she smiled as she picked it up.

Once she had lifted her head however, she saw another sweet heart a few feet away. She walked over to it and dropped the first Sweetheart onto the second one, and after lifting head she once again saw another Sweetheart a few feet away. She wondered who left these treats out in the open as she slowly gathered them all up. Over time she simply followed the trail to a meadow and saw Ross sitting in the middle of a circle of small but beautiful flowers. Saria's ears perked up and she treaded through the break in the flower bed to sit beside Ross. He turned to look at her as he heard her approaching.

"H-Hi Saria. You look, um, p-p-pretty today." Ross stuttered, turning his red face away just a bit in hopes she wouldn't notice. Saria did and giggled. "Thank you Ross. You look quite handsome yourself." At the compliment Ross's face got even redder and he found it hard to continue speaking, "I, uh, I g-grew these f-f-flowers. F-for you. I grew them for you!" Ross sputtered, his speech breaking up and he found it hard to put his sentences together the more he sat next to her. Saria gasped and asked, "You did all this for me?" Ross nodded his head in favor of not speaking and embarrassing himself further.

Saria took a better look at the hand-grown flowers all around. For an electric type, the flowers looked like they had been taken care of well. She smiled and batted her eyelashes at Ross a bit as she thanked him, "That was very sweet of you Ross." Ross nodded again and cleared his throat. "H-Happy V-Valentin-Valentines D-Day-" As Ross stuttered a Joltik sprung up from one of the flowers and landed in front of the two. Saria shrieked, her fear of small insects causing her to hide behind Ross. In a small burst of bravery, Ross got up and stood protectively in front of Saria, pointing at the bug and saying loudly, "Foul insect, leave my Saria alone!"

However brave this was on his part, the Joltik was not impressed and spat a small electric web at Ross, who was not expecting it and fall backwards on his rear, the small electrical current making his fur fluff up a bit. The Joltik then scuttled away and Saria decided to peek out from behind Ross at that moment. "Is it gone? Oh thank Arceus." Saria gave a relieved sigh and looked at Ross, the web now out of electricity, but still stuck on his face. She pawed at it to clear it off and then rubbed her cheek on Ross's. "Thank you for saving me from the big bad bug Ross."

Ross had simply sat staring ahead with the web on his face before Saria had cleaned it off and shown him such affection that it kept his brain looping through loving thoughts of the grass type beside him. His yellow cheeks burned crimson once more and he hid his face in his paws. "Your welcome." He whispered so quietly she almost missed it. She smiled and sat peacefully down amongst the flowers with Ross until they heard a noise that shocked them both into turning around. Running towards them was Rupert and Napoleon, the latter chasing the poor Toxicroak.

"Get back here you soda spilling amphibian!" Napoleon was so angry, and Ross could faintly see why. It seems as though Rupert had been drinking his favorite soda and had spilled it on Cotton's flowers by accident. The two ran towards the circle of flowers however, and Ross perked up at the realization that they could trample his own gift to Saria. "Guys wait please-!" Ross got up and held up his small paws in an attempt to stop them, but the two pushed him to the side and trampled a line past the flowers and further into the field. Cotton and Vanilla the Lopunnys ran towards them, but stopped and gasped at the sight of the trampled field. "Oh Ross I am so sorry if Napoleon ruined your date with Saria!" Cotton apologized at Ross's expense. He got up, his cheeks dirty with soft soil and shook his hands. "No no, it's all good! I just- I- oh..." Ross sat down after attempting to rebuttal Cotton's apology and thought to himself that things couldn't get any worse.

Saria frowned sadly and then closed her eyes, and her leaves waved a bit in the wind before starting to glow. She then leaned down and touched the ground with her nose, a small flower bud sprouting where her nose was. Smiling she seemed satisfied and nudged Ross to show him the small bud. Ross looked over and she said, "You can grow it all back one flower at a time. That is what made it so beautiful in the first place. To make it even better, I'll help this time. Twice the love will make it look even better." Ross's ears perked up and his face was only dusted pink now. "What...I...Of course, I, uh, I would be honored!" Ross stuttered out, and Saria touched her nose to his cheek.

Vanilla and Cotton awed in the background as Ross and Saria enjoyed the rest of Valentines Day together. Vincent gave the flowers to Veruka who accidentally sneezed fire on them and they died. Napoleon eventually was calmed down by Cotton and they enjoyed each other's company along with their daughter. Rupert escaped Napoleon's wrath and gave Vanilla a candy bouquet because flowers are so mainstream as Danny and Merry steal all the Sweethearts to sell to RGB in the background.

This was incredibly sweet :squee:.

You really got Ross and Saria to the point: Ross being shy even when making his move and Saria a bit more confident but still taken back. The way he made her found it was a real treat and Saria making the best out of the bad was really... Saria-like :D.

I also like how you managed to put in a bit of Napoleon, Cotton, Rupert and Vanilla in here.

Beautiful entry, good luck on this contest.
